| Bethany thought that she had everything, she wasn’t popular but she had friends, she didn’t have a boyfriend, but she had a crush… that was normal… right? When her mom told her that she was going to this new boarding school, Moon Lit Academy, she didn’t really know what to say… “I don’t want to leave.” She said. “Bethany this is a great opportunity… they are giving you a full scholarship.” He mother said. “And besides… maybe you will have fun there. You always complain about the people here, so this will be different.” She said “I like it here all my friends are here. I don’t want to have to start over.” Bethany said. She couldn’t go through that again. “Mom I’m not going.” “Yes you are.” Her mom said and handed Bethany her plane ticket. “We are leaving on Friday.” She said and walked out of the room. Bethany starred down at the ticket and then looked at the letter from the school. It said that she would learn different things then what she would learn in a regular school… Bethany wasn’t exactly sure what that meant. She was pretty sure that every school taught that same thing… math, science, English, all the things that were supposed to be taught in an American curriculum. She looked at the address of the school and realized that is wasn’t even in America… It was on an island that she wasn’t exactly sure existed. She was depressed staring at these pieces of paper so she pulled out her phone and called her best friend, Melanie. Mel had been her friend since seventh grade when she saved Bethany from being beat up by a bully that she was having problems with, Mel came over and punched the boy and she made him cry. And ever since then they have been best friends. Mel picked up the phone, “Your best and only friend.” She always said. “I’m leaving.” She decided to jump right into it, instead of beating around the bush. “This school is giving me a full scholar ship and mom wants me to go because she thinks I hate it here.” “You want to know what it really is… your mom hates you and she doesn’t want us to hang out… that why she is sending you away.” Mel said. Mel and Bethany’s mom have never exactly liked each other. When Mel came to the house with black hair and the full gothic clothing, her mom thought that she was on drugs and she didn’t want Bethany hanging out with Mel, but like Mel said… she really was her only friend. “I don’t really think that is it, but I will let you think that.” Bethany laughed and walked up to her bedroom. “You know we are going to stay in touch right… Moms still going to be here, so I might be back during holidays and stuff. And besides, I’m not really convinced that this place is a place. Have you ever heard of Barcos Island?” She asked Mel. “No. Where is that?” She asked her. “Your guess is as good as mine.” Bethany said. “I think it might be some island outside of someplace that everyone dreams to go, but never makes it to.” Bethany said. “Well that could be anywhere in the world.” Mel told her. “What am I suppose to do without you? When I don’t get a date to the Prom who is going to be in my group of friends?” She said. Bethany could hear the fear in her voice. Me wasn’t exactly use to being alone and she really didn’t have anyone except for Bethany either. “I’ll come back for you Prom, as long as, if they have a Prom at my new school you will come to mine.” Mel laughed and said “That’s a deal.” She said. “I sadly have to pack.” Bethany said. “I’ll talk to you tomorrow in school.” They both said bye and they hung up. She lay there looking up at the ceiling… was it possible to be disappointed that you were leaving a place where you really didn’t like anyone. The real reason she was disappointed was that it had been her and her mom for the past 17 years. She wasn’t really sure how she was going to leave her, she told her mom everything and she didn’t know how she would survive without her mom there… who was going to make her breakfast? Who was going to do her clothes and listen to her problems when her and her friend got into a fight? Her mom was just like her best friend.
Those two day went by in a blur, Bethany felt like she was numb. This couldn’t be happening… maybe it was all just a pig dream and her alarm clock was going to go off any minute now. She pinched herself. Nothing. Bethany sighed and looked out the window, her mom clearly wanted to say something, but was afraid to say it, so Bethany decided that she would. “Why do I have to go? Did I do something wrong?” She asked tears coming to her eyes. “I can never do it again. Please, I really don’t want to go.” She said hoping her mom would change her mind. “Listen baby,” Her mom said reaching over and grabbing her hand. “You’re not going because you did something. You’re going because this is going to be a great experience for you, a chance for you to get out of this small town so that you aren’t stuck here like me.” She said starring at the road. Bethany didn’t know what to say, and clearly there was no getting out of this. She was really worried that she was going to be an outcast and no one was going to like her. She took a deep breath and decided to stop thinking about the negative and start thinking about the positive. There might be cute boy there and that scared her worse than being an outcast. She wasn’t exactly use to talking to guys, she didn’t talk to them, they didn’t talk to her, it all worked out in the end. Okay so she wasn’t going to talk about the school at all, she really didn’t need to be discouraging herself before she even got to the school. If she did then she really wouldn’t get out of the car, or she was going to cling to her mother’s foot and scream, “NO I DON’T WANT TO GO!” but she was an adult… kind of, she knew how to control herself. After the long plane ride, that Bethany soon realized that she was not a plane person, she was more of a feet planted firmly on the ground kind of person. When they landed she was coming close to kissing the ground, but the ground was nasty. Bethany and her mom were sitting in the cab, both looking out the window when they arrived. She could have swore they were standing outside Buckingham Palace because this place was huge. At this instant she realized that if she was going to be here, she was going to explore this place. She was willing to bet that there were secret passage ways “I’m not sure I’m that mad about staying here now.” Bethany said starring at the building. “I think I am moving in with you.” He mom said also gaping at the building. A woman wearing a long flowing dress came out of nowhere and appeared behind Bethany and he mother. “Mrs. Nelson, Bethany.” The woman said, making them both jump and turn around. “I’m Mariella Caspin, the head mistress of Moon Lit Academy.” She said holding out her hand to Bethany’s mom who took it and smiled. “Thank you for accepting Bethany, can I ask you a question though. How did you know about Bethany?” She asked which made Bethany wonder to. She was just an ordinary girl, she was not a genius, or an athlete, so she just did not understand. “Let’s talk about this in my office. We do have a lot of things to discuss.” She said heading to the front entrance of the school. When they walked through the door, Bethany and he mom both gasped simultaneously. This place was so big. There were two grand staircases on whether side of what was either a very big foyer or a very beautiful ball room. Bethany wasn’t exactly sure what it was, but she just loved starring at the intricate design of the wall. “The dorm rooms are up these staircases and your dorm room is up the right staircase. You won’t have a roommate, we don’t yet know how you will fit in with the students yet.” Bethany looked at her, “Well students are students right? I mean are these guys like killers or something?” Bethany started laughing at the obvious joke, but the pause Mrs. Caspin had, gave Bethany pause. “Right?” Mrs. Caspin finally laughed and gave Bethany a look. “No these students are just different from you.” She left it at that as the started walking again. What did she mean the students were different? She was a teenager they were teenagers, doesn’t really get any different from that. She shook it off, maybe it was just something she said to every new student. The finally got to the office after many twists and turns down an intricate hall way. The office itself had a nice touch to it, it was set up like what Bethany thought a genies lamp would look like. There were just sheer curtains hanging everywhere. “This looks beautiful.” Bethany said and looked around. “The students here make their own room designs, they talk about it with their roommates and make the room where they want to live. Its like an escape. And since you don’t have a roommate your bedroom is going to be all you.” She said with a smile. “Okay.” Bethany’s mom looked at Mrs. Caspin and said “So why did you choose Bethany for your school?” Mrs. Caspin replied with “We need Bethany, we want someone smat and she fit the criteria.” She said, “We picked her out of 500 students that we looked at from all around the world. There is something special about her.” She smiled a weird knowing smile at Bethany. Bethany was completely enthralled and all she could do was smile back. There was just something likeable about Mrs. Caspin and she was all smiles and she was optimistic. Yet there was still something dark that surrounded her and there was something she wasn’t saying. Her mom was doing nothing but smiling, “I think Bethany is going to love it here. When does she move in?” “Well mom way to push me out the door huh?” Bethany said looking away, she couldn’t exactly blame her mother for wanting her to be here, this place was completely amazing and she was ready to move in herself. “When do I get to see my room?” That was really all she was worried about, where she was going to be staying for the next 2 years. She was also anxious about decorating her own room. Here mom wouldn’t even let her paint the wall a different color other than white. She really like interior design and this was the time to test her skills. Mrs. Caspin stood up and smiled. “You can see your room now, if it is okay with your mother?” “Yes please I would like to see it myself.” She said with just as much excited as Bethany.

| Mrs. Caspin nodded and started heading up the stairs, “I just really want you to remember that your dorm is on the right and just the right.” She said and kept the conversation at that. They got into the dorm room and Bethany really didn’t know what to say this room was huge, bigger than any dorm room she had ever been in or seen on television. “This is a nice room.” She said “I can’t wait to design it.” She really was excited. Mrs. Caspin looked at Bethany and her mom. “I am going to leave you guys alone, because it is almost time for you to leave, Mrs. Nelson.” Bethany’s mom nodded and looked at and gave her a reassuring smile. “I’ll meet you downstairs.” Bethany watched Mrs. Caspin leave, she knew that it was time for her mom to leave her hear and she didn’t want to leave her mom. If her mom left than she knew that she was going to be alone here. “Mom? Will you call a lot?” She asked, it had just been Bethany and her mom for a long time. Bethany never knew her father. When her mom told him she was pregnant, he left and never came back. Apparently some men just can’t handle real responsibility. Bethany didn’t mind though she didn’t need him there. It was suppose to be here and he mother against the world, but when he mom left… it was just going to be Bethany. “Baby, you know I will. You’re going to get so tired of me calling, you’re going to be like ‘Mom, Why you call so much?’” Bethany couldn’t help but laugh. At that moment, Bethany regretted ever showing her mom those troll meme’s. “Please never do that again.” Bethany said finally getting her laughter to calm down. “You need to understand Bethany that this school is better for you than public school. Its private and only a few students get accepted. Bethany could see that her mother was trying to show her the upside, but Bethany could really only see the downside. She was going to be the new kid for once. She saw how people treated the new kid, she watched movies. Yes, eventually good things happen in the end and everyone lives happily ever after but Bethany was feeling that about this situation. Bethany’s mom looked at her watch. “I have to leave now. It’s almost night time and that is when you classes begin. She started heading for the door. Bethany ran over to her mother and wrapped her arms around her. “I love you, Mom.” Bethany said with her eyes closed. Hoping that maybe when she opened them that is when everything would go back to normal. “I love you too, Bethany.” Her mother said and kissed the top of her head. She reached down and made Bethany look at her. “Just think, Thanksgiving is only three months away.” “Oh yes, because that is comforting.” “I have to go. I will call you tomorrow to see how your classes are.” “Are you serious? I have been up all day and now I have to go to classes all night?” Bethany said completely flabbergasted. The so wasn’t fair, Bethany thought. She gave her mother one final hug goodbye and her mom was gone. Bethany looked around the room. It was quiet and empty, maybe things would be different when things were done. Bethany couldn’t get over the fact that the room was big. There was a balcony, and the best part about it was that there was a glass door in the floor to ceiling window. It was so beautiful. Bethany looked over the terrace and there was nothing but green grass and a line of trees. If she went over to the right, just behind the trees she could see a lake and the view was just beautiful, Bethany had a feeling that she was going to spend a lot of time out there. Bethany heard a knock at the door. She walked back into the room from the balcony and crossed to the door. When she opened it, Mrs. Caspin was standing there. “Hi Bethany. You’re going to start your classes tomorrow night because it has been a long day for you. If you draw up the floor plans to your room, I could have it done by the time your classes are over.” “Oh that is no problem I already have pictures.” She said walking back into her room to her back pack. Bethany pulled out a notebook and looked up at Mrs. Caspin, who was still standing at the door. Bethany walked back to her and handed her the picture. “I want it to have a Greek Goddess feel.” “You’re achieving that with all the gold.” Mrs. Caspin laughed, “This won’t take long. Here is a folder that has your class schedule in it and pretty much everything else.” Bethany kept nodding to everything she kind of spaced out when she saw her schedule. It was like a college schedule, all 101’s. “Did you hear me?” Mrs. Caspin asked her like a teacher. “What? No. I was looking at the schedule… Are you sure this is my schedule? I mean there are a lot of what look like college courses.” Bethany asked because she wasn’t that much of a genius, she really wasn’t that smart. “Yes this is it. The classes aren’t hard you will fit right in. Like I was saying… Don’t stare if you see something different, just let it pass. If you catch it you might get hurt.” “Whoa! What? I didn’t come here to die.” “Calm down! You’re not going to die.” She said rolling her eyes. “I’m just telling you things that I tell you everyone. This is an old building… who knows what’s in here.” “Okay.” Bethany said a little skeptical. “So where exactly are the classes help?” She skew this was a big building, but it wasn’t that big.” “There is a completely different building on the other side of the island. There are means of transportation, so that you don’t have to walk there.” “There should be a pamphlet with all this in it.” Bethany said. “There is a packet of all this information in the folder with you schedule.” Bethany gave an embarrassed laugh. “Oh, sorry.” “It is perfectly fine.” Mrs. Caspin said with a smile. There is was again Bethany couldn’t stop herself she smiled back and she started to calm down a little and now be so nervous. “Bethany get some sleep. I will see you tomorrow night when classes star.” Mrs. Caspin said, turning to walk down the hallway. Bethany yawned, she really was tired now for some reason. She walked to her suitcase and pulled out pajamas. She just threw them on and she fell into bed. She didn’t know why she was so tired, it was just the afternoon. Maybe just a little cat nap and she would get up in about an hour. Bethany finally let herself drift off into a deep sleep.

| When Bethany finally woke up she realized that it was night time. She got up with a fright because she thought that she had slept through an entire day of classes. She shrugged well if she missed her classes she realized that there was nothing she could do about it now. She reached over and grabbed that packet of her desk, opening it and pulling out her schedule. Psych 101- 8:30 p.m Mr. Mason Calculus- 10:00 p.m Mr. Reid Chemistry- Midnight Dr. Acula Study Hall 2-4 a.m ((Bethany you have to pick a club to join for your last few hours of the school day. I've left a list so that you can pick from that just let me know what you choose by the end of the school day. Thank you. Mrs. Caspin.)) Bethany looked over at the clock and it was 8:00 p.m so she needed to get up and get ready so that she can at least make it to her classes on time. That was the one thing that she hated what being late. She didn't understand how people could walk into class late and then bother her about what they missed. Seriously, if you were here on time you wouldn't have to ask. She shook off the little amount of anger that she got whenever she thought about it and headed to the shower. She grabbed her favorite body wash, Japanese Cherry blossom, that scent was her favorite just because it had a scent, but it wasn't that strong, and she headed to take her shower. Ten minutes later she got out, her showers never took that long because this time she was in a rush. Bethany hurried up and got dressed, she figured this wasn't a school that had uniforms, so she put on her favorite Beatles t-shirt, a pair of black skinny jeans, and her Converse tennis shoes. She was ready to go. Bethany was nervous about her first day, she never wore a back pack so she grabbed her keys and headed out. Her schedule didn't tell her any of the rooms for the class rooms so she was flying blind right now. Maybe if she ran into Mrs. Caspin she could ask her where her classes were. But other than that she knew she was going to be late because she figured there were no signs on the doors just numbers. Bethany headed to the school house and say that she was completely wrong, the classes had the signs with the teachers names on them and everything. She gave a sigh of relief. She had ten minutes to fine her class and she had faith that she was going to be on time. Students were rushing everywhere, but some when she past they would stare at her wide eyed like they were surprised she was even here. Why wouldn't she be here it was just a school. She was here to learn like everyone else. She looked around and people were starring and whispering now and that was one thing she hated. If people had something to say they could at least have the decency to say it to her face. She had told herself that she wasn't going to start anything her first day of school, so she stuck her head up a little higher and walked down the hall. She found the class with five minutes to spare and walked into the room. Everyone stopped to stare at her and it was literally everyone. Even the teacher. She sighed and found and empty seat... this was going to be a really long first day. She really hoped that it was just over already or that she was back at her house and with her friends. At least when people stared at her at home, she knew who they were and some of their dirty secrets so they wouldn't say anything. But here... she was they knew kid that apparently everyone was facinated with. She wanted to hide in the corner where no one would notice her. ((That's all I got, have to figure out whether or not there is going to be a love interest or not. Any suggestions? Or comments... I like feedback. Thanks )) | |
