Shaylin Ruede

Shaylin Ruede is the first fledgling ever to be Marked red.

Before she was Marked, Shaylin was blind. When she is Marked red by Erik Night, Nyx gifts her with True Sight, which makes her able to see the true colors of people. Erik, being scared that he "messed it up", drives her to the House of Night.

When Shaylin arrives at House of Night, she meets Neferet and fakes passing out. When Neferet leaves, Shaylin calls her Dead Fish Eye Lady, because her color resembled her of the eyes of dead fish she saw in a store before she turned blind. Aphrodite likes the nickname and starts using it. Shaylin also says that Shaunee's color is red and warm, while Dallas is red from hate.

Shaylin is close to Erik Night, since he wants to make sure she is okay, blaming himself for Marking her red. She is also rather friendly by the good red fledglings. Neferet has proclaimed that Shaylin was marked red, because she was "broken" (as implied by her being blind), and didn't have to die to become red.

I loved Shaylin from the word go. I think she's really sweet and kind. Her affinity is so cool! I bet it was a shock for Erik, not being able to hide behind his acting abilities from her. I think Shaylin and Erik would be good as a couple, Shaylin could really help Erik become a better person, because she wouldn't take any of his possessiveness.

They would make a good couple. She's really strong willed too so it would help a lot.

I really like Shaylin, too. She's already made it to my top3 HoN characters (other two being Aphrodite and Stevie Rae). She's just so sweet. I just hope that if she and Erik hook up, she'll put him back into his place so that he doesn't get crazy possessive (I don't have my hopes up, but you never know).

I wish we had more time with this character. I liked her and she certainly rose above most characters in this series but it's a shame she didn't get the attention that Shaunee did.
