This is a free verse poem titled "Immortal Dark". It's about a fight between two opposing forces (represented here by Light and Dark) and the girl caught in between.

Rain falling
The calm descending
My little meadow green
Forever ongoing

Eternal light
Disappears into
Immortal dark

Hope fading
A strange peace settles
The always enemies
Prepare for the war

Eternal light
Readying to fight
Immortal dark

Tears cascading
A suffocating hurt
Melt into the Earth
Hide behind the mask

Eternal light
Ready to duel
Immortal dark

The weapons fierce
The quill and the scroll
The wit and the tongue
It’s nothing or all

Eternal light
Marches to battle
Immortal dark

Armies merging
Fighting in my meadow
Peace and calm gone
Abandoned the field

Eternal light
Defeated by
Immortal dark

Light falls
Dark prevails forever
The life burned
In my little meadow

Eternal light
Slayed by
Immortal dark

Okay, this is a song called "Midnight's Company". I had tried to write a dark song and epic failed, and then I fixed it. Here's the revision:

Are you ready
For the night?
So full of darkness
Devoid of all light?

I can see your fear
In your eyes
Deep down in your core
Is where it resides

[Chorus:]
Under the lightless moon
The wind sings a soft tune
The clouds are black and you will see
Midnight's company

Trapped in the silence
You won't last for long
They're just waiting for
Something to go wrong

Funeral song?

Here's another poem. I got the idea from the short story "The Pit and the Pendulum". By the way, the song "The Poet and the Pendulum" by Nightwish is amazing. Go 14 minute songs! And yes, you read that correctly. Anyways, this is called "The End".

I chose the pit.
Its gaping mouth is swallowing me whole.

But I don’t resist.

I lean back into its
Shady embrace.

I’m giving myself
To the dark
That never felt right
Until now.

Air rushing by
Steals my breath.

The wind and silence
Lull me into a calm.
I know it will last
For an eternity.

I’m glad I chose the pit.
The pain will end sooner.
I can’t watch my death
Come slowly closer
As it swings back and forth.

I finally meet my end.

Here are a couple of sonnets I had to write for school. They don't have a rhyme scheme. The first is in iambic petrameter (10 syllables) and the second is in iambic tetrameter 98 syllables)


I can feel the betrayed look on my face
As I fly away from my so-called home.
Breathless, I fall to the ground, far from fear.
The rhythm of your dark wings above me
Scared again, I drag myself up, and run.
Why am I so afraid of an angel?
One whom I thought was oh so trustworthy?
I guess I didn’t notice that you were
A messenger of the Underworld, not
A deliverer of hope, love, and peace.
The black feathers of your wings block the stars.
Their shady embrace wraps around my soul.
I shriek, and yet, now I have awakened.
Perhaps now my nightmare will fade away.

The dark sun sets; full moon rises.
Wolves howl as he draws his last breath.
My heart weeps and mourns for lost love
As he makes his final journey
To a stone grave and deep darkness.
Rain steadily falls as I go
To visit him just one more time.
The sky cries because I refuse.
It’s accepted reality
When I myself haven’t quite yet.
The ground beneath me is muddy.
I won’t move, even though I’m cold.
Curled up beside him, I’ll be with
Him until the end of the stars.
