Prolouge:

As her finger flies over the key board, she thinks of what she could be writing instead of her stupid social studies project. She wished she could be writing a story about a girl getting lost in the woods. She wished so desperately to be writing that story, that it becomes her life.

Chapter 1:

“The Constitution of America is important to our lives today because it set up a system of checks and balances while it set up our government.”

I write my opening paragraph to this stupid social studies homework. I write the first sentence and then open the tab to my story. I hear the doorknob to my room turn and quickly open the social studies again.

“Honey,” My mom says quietly. “Its time for dinner. How much of your paper do you have?” She walks over and looks. “You have been working on this for two hours and this is all you have? I know you can do better.”

“I am sorry mom,” I reply. “I have been caught up in my story, I will finish now though.”

“The story,” Mom asks suspiciously. “Or the homework?”

“The homework.”

“Can you come eat first?”

“MOM,” a voice travels down the hallway. “SOMEONE IS AT THE DOOR FOR FELICITY!”

“Go,” Mom says rolling her eyes. “Maybe they can help you with your homework.”

“Thanks, mom,” I say and run from my room and down the steps. I open the door and see Brian; he is in his school soccer uniform and is holding his book bag and a soccer ball.

“Are you busy?” He asks, his sweet voice filling my ears. “I need help with the social studies homework.”

“We are probably on the same page,” I reply smiling. I move out of the way and let him in. “We are about to eat dinner, do you want to join us?”

“I don’t want to put you out of your way . . .” Brian says slowly.

“Come in Brian,” mom says from behind me. “Felicity’s boyfriend is always welcome in our house.”

Brian smiles, mumbles a thanks and walks past me to put his stuff down. He turns and looks at me, and walks toward me to give me a hug. I hug him back and see my mom leave the room. I pull back and looking into Brian’s eyes, he leans down and kisses me. I kiss him back.

“EWWW!” TJ, Sarah, and Billy say from the steps. Brian and I pull away and turn beet red.

“Go away,” I said loudly and they ran into the kitchen. I hug Brian once more and he kisses my cheek. “Let’s take your stuff up stairs and put it in my room and we can set up your lab top to work on the project.”

“Okay,” Brian smiled and grabbed his stuff. He took my hand and started up the steps. “So how much do you have?”

“A sentence,” I say slowly and look down.

“Nice,” Brian says. “More then what I have at least!”

“How have you not written anything?” We reach my room and walk in. He lets go of my hand, throws his things on my bright green comforter on my bed, and pulls up a chair with his laptop. I sit at my desk staring at the sentence written. “This is harder then I thought. I am about to say let’s just not do this, but remember Mr. Wolfe said we could work with someone? We should work together!”

“Yes,” Brian said smiling. “That would make life so much easier – for both you and me!” He chuckled.

“Yeah,” I said slowly. “But it could also make it more difficult if you lean in to kiss me every two seconds.”

Brian leans in and kisses me then pulls away just enough to talk, “Like that?” He asked kissing me again.

“FELICITY! BRIAN! DINNER!” My mom yells up the stairs.

Brian pulls away and stands up and he offers me his hand. I take it smiling and stand up. He embraces me in a hug and then takes my hand and leads me back down the steps. We walk into the kitchen and he puts his arm around my shoulders.

The smell of my moms Lasagna, garlic bread, and brownies filled the room. My dad was placing ice cubes and lemonade in cups while Billy, Sarah and TJ each set the table.

“Don’t sit there,” My dad said, pointing to the chair in front of him. “That is my chair if you please.”

“Okay Papa,” I reply sitting across from him and showing Brian to sit to my left. TJ sits to my right, taps my shoulder, and then leans in.

“Be careful little sis,” He whispered. “I heard Brian was a HUGE player. Don’t let him hurt you like he hurt many others before.”

I lean away slap him and turn back to Brian, “So how was soccer practice?”

“It was a game,” Brian replied, rolling his eyes. “And it was awesome! I scored 5 goals and everyone is totally jealous that I have the hottest girl in school to sit on the bleachers every other game.” He smiled and kissed my cheek.

“I will never get used to that,” My dad says, looking at TJ. “How was your –”

I zoned their conversation out and went back to my conversation with Brian. “Aww, I didn’t know the WHOLE soccer team was after me now.”

“They are,” Brian said. “But they will not get you, I know they won’t.”

I smiled, “I would never date any of them because I love you.”

“EWWWWWWWW!” Sarah and Billy say next to mom who is trying to get us all to calm down.

“Today,” she began. “We have Brian, Fel’s boyfriend here. We need to eat quickly so that they can finish their Civics homework. Brian needs to get home pretty soon I presume.”

“No,” Brian said. “My dad doesn’t really care.”

“Mama,” I say. “Can he stay in the guest room?”

“Would that be okay with your parents,” My mom asked concerned.

“Yeah,” Brian replied. “They would be really happy to be able to have me out of the house for a night.”

“Okay,” I say smiling. “It’s settled.”

“Let’s eat!” My dad said scooping food out on his plate.

I stare at the food circling around the table and keep passing it around but don’t take anything. I think of the story I could be writing instead of sitting here with family that I never feel safe around – they make me blush, they are embarrassing, they don’t need an excuse to make me feel bad, they make fun of me all the time.

“Eat something, baby” Brian says. “Or you won’t be able to think straight when we are writing.”

“I am not hungry,” I reply. “I wouldn’t be able to concentrate if I tried.”

“That stupid story your writing?” TJ replied. “It’s not worth it, just finish your work. Once you are done your project you can write all you want.”

“I know,” I reply. “But the story is so much easier to write. I choose to write that, the Civics project I have to do or I fail.”

“You’d fail both of us,” Brian said.

“Papa,” I beg. “Can I go upstairs?”

“Eat a few bites of lasagna first,” He said sternly.

“But Papa!” I beg.

“Take a brownie with you upstairs,” He finally gives in. “Brian you can take a plate of food up with you. Have fun writing your paper!”

I take a brownie and start up the stairs, Brian follows with a plate of food in his hand. We walk into my room and sit in silence for a few minutes.

“What is wrong,” Brian finally says. “What is this story about that you want to write so bad that you want to ditch our project?”

I pull up the document silently and he reads it, “Oh my gosh. How can you write so much on one topic? You have 100 pages on here and 1 sentence on the other paper. That story is really good, baby.”

“Thanks,” I say quietly. “But let’s finish this paper.”

“I’ll write it,” Brian said. “If I need help, I will ask you. Find something to get your mind off this story. I don’t want you to live it.”

I nod and pull up my German homework; I work through all of the problems. I finish in half an hour and turn to see what Brian has.

“What do you have?” I ask.

“Let’s see,” He turned the laptop around and showed me the finished copy. “You’re good at writing suspenseful mysteries and doing German homework while I’m good at writing papers for classes’ other then creative writing.”

I smiled, he kissed my cheek and when I look up at him, he kisses me on the lips. We kiss for a while and then I pull away, “What do you want to do now?”

“Watch TV?” Brian suggested.

“I’m game,” I say reaching for the remote and turning the television on. Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 1 is on. “You want to watch this?”

“Yeah,” Brian smiles and moves over to sit on my bed. He pats the spot next to him for me to sit next to him. I grab my laptop and move to sit next to him. I place my laptop next to him and walk to lay behind it on my stomach, facing the TV. I pull up my story and start to write more.

“I walk into the forest, the trees creating sort of a path for me to walk through. ‘Allison,’ I hear my friends yell after me. I ignore them, wanting to be alone. I walk quickly through the woods and away from the calls of my friends – in which weren’t there when I needed them most.

A new voice fills my ears, ‘You shouldn’t be out here,’ it said. ‘It isn’t safe for a pretty girl such as yourself to walk alone in the woods.’ The voice was full of hate; it was a male’s voice.

I turn, and run, as fast as I can back to my friends who are long out of view. I can’t see the light of day; I can only see the trees. Footsteps follow me, gaining speed. I see the root of a tree popping up from the ground in front of me and go to jump but my foot gets caught, I fall, twisting my knee. The footsteps slow and I turn slowly to look up at the man. He grabs my arm and pulls me up, covering my mouth so that I can’t breathe.

I kick and struggle as much as I can, but the man’s grip tightens and soon I can barely move at all. He moves his hand so that I can breathe through my nose but keeps it clamped tightly over my mouth. He starts to carry me back into the forest. A tear escapes my eyes; I know I might never see my friends again.

‘Don’t cry darling,’ the man says. ‘I won’t hurt you too much. But you may never see those friends again.’ He continues to walk, quicker now. He comes up to a cabin. ‘This is where you will be from now on.’

I look at the cabin horrified. What is he going to do to me? Runs through my head, I don’t know what to do, I am completely terrified.”

“Stop writing that horrid story,” Brian said pulling me out of thought, the concern in his voice strong. “I don’t want to know what he is going to do to Allison, so please, promise me you will stop writing. Or at least give it a happy ending? I don’t want you to get so obsessed with this that you end up in Allison’s shows. I can’t loose you, I can’t live without you, and you know that. So please please stop writing this story!”

“But I can’t,” I reply, looking up at Brian, concern filling his eyes. “It’s my story, my story must be completed, and I can’t leave it hanging. And it can’t have a happy ending until the horrible things happen to her.”

“I don’t care!” Brian said angrily, putting his hand on my shoulder. “You can’t finish this story! It isn’t good for your health! Delete it now or I will delete it for you!”

I look at the screen, save the story, lock it, and shut down my computer. “Happy!” I say, a tear running down my face. I stand up, put my computer down on my desk, and run out of my room. I run down the stairs, fling the front door open, and run out, out into the brisk night air. I hear my mom yelling after me, but I continue running, to the corner, where I sit down and cry.

“What’s wrong with you?” I hear a familiar voice say. I look up and see:

“Aaron!” I say, standing up and hugging him. “I can’t believe you’re here!”

“I walk around the neighborhood this time every night,” He said, hugging me back. “It’s peaceful.”

“Can I walk with you?” I ask. “I need to clear my mind.”

“Brian?”

I nod, “He made me delete my story.”

“The one I love?”

“Yes, but I saved it, locked and shut down my computer. Then I ran here.”

“Ohh,” Aaron replied, letting go of me and starting to walk away from my house. “Come on.”

I follow; my phone vibrates in my pocket. I pull it out and look at it, Brian. I open the message and read it aloud to Aaron:

“Fel, come bck. U no i ddnt mean it baby. Plz?”

“Don’t go back,” Aaron said. “I want somebody to walk with.”

“I didn’t plan on going back…” I say. “I am not ready to deal with him.” My phone vibrates again, this time my mom. The message reads: “I am worried honey, please come home. We are ALL worried. Brian is crying, he is afraid you will turn into Allison? At least that’s what he said.”

“Wow,” Aaron says, chuckling. “Is your family really that protective of you?”

“Yeah,” I say. “Now you know what I live with. They only act like they care when I am not there. When I am there, they hate me, they pick on me, and I hate it. When I walk back through the door they will yell at me, not even caring that Brian is there.”

“I will walk in with you,” Aaron offered, stopping and turning back to my house.

“Would you?” I ask, walking back with him by my side. “Just watch out for Brian…”

“Don’t worry about him,” he replied.

We walk in silence the rest of the way, I walk up to my house, open the door, I wait for Aaron to walk in and then close the door. My whole family is there. Brian glares at Aaron and me.

“Where were you Felicity Jessica Jackson?” My dad says, raising his voice. “And who is this!? You have a boyfriend.”

“Yeah, Felicity,” Brian says bitterly. “Who is this?”

“Aaron is just a friend!” I yell back. “You act like I cheated on you!”

“For all I know,” Brain says walking up to Aaron. I jump in between them. “You could have been out there making out with this punk.”

I turn to Aaron, “Just ignore him.” Aaron looked down at me and moved his black hair away from his blue eyes. “Just ignore him.”

“So you cheated on me!”

“NO!” I yell, a tear rolling down my face. I lower my voice to a whisper. “I would never cheat on you, I love you.”

“Then why did you run away from me when I told you to delete your story?”

“Because you know that I can’t just delete a story like that!”

“You didn’t need to run away to Aaron.”

“He found me crying at the curb!”

“I just saw her run up, crying and walked her back here,” Aaron says calmly.

“No kissing?” Brian said bitterly.

“None,” Aaron and I say together.

I look around to all the faces of my family – they all look scared and mad. I look up into Brian’s eyes – they are furious. I run toward the steps, TJ grabs me, “You can’t just run away from your problems all the time.”

I kick him and he lets me go, I run up the stairs, into my room, and lock the door behind me. I walk over to the balcony that I can walk out on and see the whole front yard. Aaron is walking out, Brian yelling after him.

“Aaron,” I yell to him. “Run! Brian!”

Brian was walking out, fists in a ball. “Shut up, Felicity!”

“Make me!” I yell back, watching Aaron run. I know that Brian won’t be able to catch him now.

I run back inside, open my computer, and log on. I bring up facebook and make my status: Drama :’(. I sit and cry, wanting to open my story but not wanting to hurt Brian more. I turn to the TV and watch it for a while through my tears. I hear a knock at my door.

“Can I come in?” Brian says softly.

“Why would I want to see you?” I say, trying to hide tears.

“I am sorry, baby,” Brian said.

“Why should I forgive you?”

“I didn’t mean to yell at you,” Brian said, he’s crying. “I really didn’t. Your story is good; I shouldn’t have made you delete it.”

“I didn’t delete it anyway,” I say, standing up to stand behind the door.

“Okay,” Brian says sniffling.

I open the door a little, and look at him. “How sorry are you?”

He pushes the door open lightly, pulls me close, and kisses me soft and long. When he pulls away, he pulls me into the tightest hug I’ve every received. “I can’t explain how sorry I am.”

I can tell he is truly sorry – the look in his eyes, the tears rolling down his cheek. “Come in.”

He grabs my hand and pulls me in, he then closes the door and locks it. “I love you so much, Fel,” He says hugging me. “I shouldn’t have yelled at you or your friend. I swear I am super sorry!”

“I know you are,” I say.

“No, you don’t know,” Brian said. “You don’t know how much it hurt me when you ran out -”

I kissed him, telling him to stop talking, that I knew how he felt. I kissed him for as long as I could, when I couldn’t breathe, I pulled away. “I know.”

“I see that,” he smiled. “I love you.”

“I love you, too,” I say smiling back. I yawn and look at the time, “I think its time to head to sleep.”

“Yes,” Brian said. “Where is the guest room?”

“Follow me,” I say, walking out of my room and down the hallway. “Right here,” I open the door and walk in, Brian follows with his things in hand.

“Good night, honey,” he said hugging me and kissing me. “Don’t forget what tomorrow is.”

“Seven months,” I say with a smile on my face. “Good night.” I walk back to my room, close the door, and grab my phone. I slide it up to see a text from Aaron. It says to meet him at the corner at 11:30. I look up at the clock, 11:28. I sneak down the stairs and out the door, key in my hand, phone in the other. I jog to the corner and see Aaron standing there. “What’s up?”

He embraces me in a hug, “He’s not right for you,” he said. “You need to break up with him.”

I look into Aaron’s eyes and see the concern. “I can’t tomorrow, tomorrow is our seven month anniversary…”

“Would you rather he put you through hell?”

“No…”

“I could be better for you,” He said, hugging me again. “I would never yell at you, or tell you to delete your stories, I would respect you more then he has. And you know that!”

I bite my lip – I do like him, but I also like Brian. Which one do I like more, which one can I trust more?

“Felicity,” Brian’s voice filled my ears from behind. “I went to your room to tell you something, but I see you have more important people to be with. I got my stuff, I will walk home – I never want to see you again, bye. I’ll turn in the project with our names on it tomorrow.” With that, he turns and starts to walk away.

“Brian…” I whisper but he is too far out of earshot to hear. I turn back to Aaron, tears flowing down my face.

“See he’s not worth it,” Aaron says, hugging me and letting me cry on his shoulder. When I am done, he straightens me and looks into my eyes. “Will you be my girlfriend?”

I look at him, “I can’t,” I say. “I just got out of a relationship. I don’t want to be in another one so soon.”

“Whatever,” Aaron says turning away. “See you tomorrow.”

I stand there, and it starts to rain, I put my phone in my jacket pocket and standing there. I start back to my house and when I get there lay on my bed. I throw my phone on the floor, turn the light off, and sit on my bed in the dark, I am soaked to the bone from rain, but I am not in the mood to change. I cry.

Chapter 2:

I wake up the next morning, lying on the floor, sun shining through the open window. My mom stands in the open doorway. “You just fell out of bed,” she said.

“Really,” I ask, sitting up. I rub my head, which hurts. “I had a rough night.”

“I heard,” my mom said walking over to where I sit and sitting next to me. “Brian left a message last night that said he never wanted to see you again and that he would put both your names on the Civics paper you two wrote.”

I look down at my hands. “Did Aaron call, too?”

“Yes,” My mom said. “He said: ‘You could have just said no, you didn’t have to make up a long excuse on why you couldn’t date me. See you in school, I guess.”

“Ugh,” I say, putting my head in my hands. “What should I do mama? I lost the two people I love the most in one night and at basically the same time!”

My mom hugs me tight, “There are other people out there for you – don’t doubt it for a second. You’ll find someone else.”

A tear goes down my cheek; I stand up, and walk to my dresser to get dressed. “I need to get ready for school.” The date on my phone mocks me – November 13, 2011; Brian and my seven month anniversary. Or what should be our seven month. I sigh – everything is mocking me.

My mom leaves the room and I get dressed into a pair of faded jeans and a nice shirt. I do my hair and make-up, grab my things – laptop in my bag – and head toward the steps. I head downstairs, grab a cereal bar and walk out the door with TJ by my side.

“You two broke up?” he asked cautiously.

I can only manage a nod and a tear falls down my cheek.

He stops, turns me around to face him and says, “I told you: don’t let him hurt you. And what do you do? You go and get your heart broken. That’s what you do.” He sees he isn’t helping me at all. “Do I need to kick some *edit your post and this will go away*?” I nod again. “Do you want to watch?” I nod and smile. “There you go! Be happy; show him you can be happy with out him.”

I wipe the tear away and walk to the bus stop. The first two people I see are Aaron and Brian, ignoring each other. I walk to Aaron, “The answer is yes.”

“What?” He asks confused.

“You asked me out last night,” I say. “The answer is yes.”

A huge smile crosses his face and he embraces me in a hug. I see Brian’s hurt face look over his shoulder at us. I watch TJ walk up to him and start talking.

“Today,” TJ starts. “Before lunch, outside café two – you me – you understand?”

“What for?” Brian asks dumbly.

“What for!” TJ exclaims. “Breaking my little sister’s heart, that’s why!”

“It doesn’t look so broken,” Brian said pointing to Aaron and me.

Aaron turns, “You broke her heart mother-*edit your post and this will go away*. I am here to heal it for her – more then you’ll ever do.” He steps forward but I grab his hand and pull him back.

“No,” I say. “He isn’t worth it.”

“I’ll be there when TJ kicks your *edit your post and this will go away*.”

The bus pulls up and I pull Aaron on and toward the middle of the bus. I gesture for him to go in by the window. Brian sits in the front and TJ all the way in the back. I lean on Aaron’s shoulder and fall asleep. He wakes me up gently when we reach the school. He kisses my forehead when I look up at him. We both smile and end up the last two out of the bus.

He walks me to my math homeroom, which I have with him and Brian. I sit in the back with Aaron – I would usually sit here with Brian.

“What happened to you and Brian?” Mr. Sabol asks while passing out papers. He gestures to Aaron and then at Brian who is in the front of the room playing with a girls hair.

I shake my head and grit my teeth. “Nothing, there was never a thing between us.”

Mr. Sabol nodded and walked to the next group. Aaron kisses my cheek, “You don’t know how long I’ve waited to do that.” I smile and blush.

The period passes by quickly, the bell rings and all three of us are off to German.

“I don’t know how you could do this to me,” Brian says behind me. “I loved you. You know I did!”

Aaron puts his arm around me and leans in, “Ignore him. He just wants you to feel bad. That is all he wants.”

“Aaron is just going to use you,” Brian says.

“SHUT UP!” I yell turning around, pulling away from Aaron’s arm. He takes a grab of my arm and pulls me toward class. “NEIN!” I say pulling away from his grasp. I walk over to Brian and stand looking up at him – into his hazel brown eyes. “I loved you. But you walked away from me last night when I needed you the most.” I turn to Aaron. “You did too – when I needed you the most you walked away because I said not right now.” I look around, people began to gather and an administrator was pushing through the crowd. I began to push through in the opposite direction and got out before he got to the center where Aaron and Brian were standing, staring after me in awe.

I look around and walk out the door – TJ, Brian, Aaron, Michelle, Rae, Nathaniel, and a few others of my closest friends run after me. I hear them calling my name. I hear their feet coming after me – but I know that I can run faster. I hold my backpack tighter on my back and run toward the woods. I run in and slow down – I hear my friends yelling at me and have a weird sense of déjà vu. I think back to my story, the next event to take place is the guy to come along. I decide not to go too far, but far enough that my friends wouldn’t dare to follow.

“NO!” Brian yells. “Come back! I love you more then Aaron could ever say he does. I don’t want you to become Allison.”

“Yo,” Aaron’s voice says. “Shut the hell up. She left you because you left her. Fel, I love you. Come back, please, I need you.”

I continue to walk into the forest, the trees creating sort of a path for me to walk through. “Felicity,” I hear my friends yell after me. I ignore them, wanting to be alone. I walk quickly through the woods and away from the calls of my friends – in which weren’t there when I needed them most. I look back but cannot see them through the fog of early morning.

A new voice fills my ears, “You shouldn’t be out here,” it said. “It isn’t safe for a pretty girl such as yourself to walk alone in the woods.” The voice was full of hate; it was a male’s voice.

I turn, and run, as fast as I can back to my friends who are long out of view. I cannot see the light of day; I can only see the trees and the fog. Footsteps follow me, gaining speed. I see the root of a tree popping up from the ground in front of me and go to jump but my foot gets caught, I fall, twisting my knee. The footsteps slow and I turn slowly to look up at the man. He grabs my arm and pulls me up, covering my mouth so that I cannot breathe.

“Don’t cry darling,” the man says. “I won’t hurt you too much. But you may never see those friends again.” He continues to walk, quicker now. He comes up to a cabin. “This is where you will be from now on.”

I look at the cabin horrified. What is he going to do to me? Runs through my head, I do not know what to do, I am completely terrified. I don’t know if I will ever escape.

The man opens the door and carries me in. The room is dark, lit only by a candle in the center. Doors and one hallway line the walls. He walks down the hallway and takes me into an open door, the room is light, and the window locked and has bars across it. He dumps me on the bed and chains my feet to the bottom of the bed.

“You’re not getting away like the others have,” he said slowly and angrily. He walks out of the room and locks the door.

He must not have noticed my book bag on my back or phone in my pocket. I take my book bag off slowly so that he doesn’t hear and pull my laptop out. I turn it on, he has no wifi here so I won’t be able to get online so I turn it back off, put it in my book bag and silently place my bag under the bed. I pull out my phone and text Brian:

“Help me! I am in the old cabin in the woods; a strange man has me chained to a bed in the room that we searched the other day with the bars on the window. Please hurry I am scared to death!”

I turn my phone on silently and put it in my back pocket so that the guy won’t be able to see the bulge of it. I begin to struggle, trying to find a way out of this place.

The door handle rattles and unlocks the guy comes in and looks at me. “You won’t be getting out,” He said. “Call me Ed if you need any thing wonderful.” He walks over and kisses my cheek, he smells of beer and cigarettes. He reaches to the head of the bed and pulls other chains out, “I don’t want to have to use these,” he gestures to my arms. “But I will if you absolutely don’t listen to me or struggle too much. Do you understand?” I nod slowly. “Good, darling.”

He pulls a needle out from behind his back – I jump away and try to get free. I scream and hope Brian saw my text. I needed him more then anything right now.

“Sweetie,” Ed says. “I don’t want to have to use these chains.” He put the needle down and grabbed my arm, chaining it to the top of the bed. He reaches over me to grab my other arm but I bite him. “Don’t do this,” He said. He chained my other arm, rubbed his arm where I had bit him and then put the needle in my arm. I screamed but Ed placed a rope in my mouth. “I told you,” he smirked. “You didn’t want to struggle.

The last thing I remember is seeing Brian rush into the room and the look on Ed’s face as he left the bedside.
