Cassie's Poem

I wrote this last year about a dear friend of mine. He is doing fine by the way.

My dear friend said,
Don’t worry about me,
I’ll be alright.
Go home
And get some sleep tonight.

I know its not that simple.
I am 17, born in Kissimmee Florida, and completely my own.
As a family we moved around
Back and forth between two towns.
Of course, they were in different states,
But I believe that’s thanks to the Fates.
My friend has cancer you see,
So how am I expected to just drop it and let it be?

He suffers from leukemia
And is only now 18.
He goes to the hospital today
And I am worried beyond belief.
All I want is to see his face
Maybe then I would get some kind of relief.
He says he’ll be alright,
And that his future shall be bright.
But what I see
Is that he’s trying to convince himself
More than me.
With a bright smile
And a glowing face he leaves
With one more glance back towards me.
In his eyes I see he’s scared
For this is a burden to heavey to bare.
The doctors promise to fix him up,
And give him a cup from which to sup.
I guess its up to those above now,
And with that I take my final bow.
