"Why would the land lord up your rent if you don't even have a bed?" I asked. "Without a bed it's not even an apartment. Whenever you say you're selling an apartment you always say a 'one bedroom apartment' and it's not a bedroom without a bed and without a bedroom it isn't an apartment."

I wrote my number on his hand. "He's just that much of an a**." I whispered and walked away.

I frowned. What was she talking about? I sighed and went back to eating my burger and drinking my shake.

I went to the kitchen to clock out early.

"where do you think your going Lizbet?" the cook said to me.

"My apartment. My feet hurt, I'm tired, and I just want to be alone."

"If you clock out early you're fired."

I walked over to him. I slapped him across the face. "Consider that my quit on the spot notice. I'm sick of you and your snide comments as well as your disapproving looks, old man." I said to him with an angry tone. I changed into my street clothes in the bathroom and then threw my uniform at the cook on my way out to the front door.

I chuckled and saw her leave. I finished my shake and followed her. I walked up next to her. "Hey."

"What do you want now?" I asked him as I kept walking.

"Well I thought I might talk with you," I said. "And I never did tell you my name Lizbet. So I thought it would be in both of our best interests that I do so." I held out my hand for her to take. "Alucard J. Draculana at your services."

I put my hand in his to be polite. "Alucard.....is that Romanian?"

I nodded. "My parents are both romanian so they named me that," I said shaking her hand once before taking it away. "I transfered in high school for a semester here and fell in love. I've been an american citizen since I was nineteen. They didn't approve that much but they respected me enough to allow me to stay here."

"I lived there for awhile when I was seven........Someday I'll go back there and stay there I hope..." I said softly.

"You mean to Sweden?" I asked. Then I nodded. "America can be ruff. But if you think that Sweden is your home then go for it."

"No. Romania."

I blinked and looked at her, shock was written all over my face. "Oh," I said, my voice neutral. I hadn't been back there since 1908.

"I loved the beauty it had...and I want to be around it again...because here..here in America they deem me ugly and unwanted.....In Romania at least I could be surround by the nature that doesn't judge me for my looks as a human being..."

I looked at her even more shocked then before. I took her right hand and brought it up to my lips. I kissed it softly. "I don't think you're ugly," I whispered. "I think you're beautiful."

I was startled and I felt my face turn red. "Why do you see me differently?" I whispered before running off even though my feet would hurt more by the time I got 'home'.

I smiled as I watched her run away from me. I wouldn't follow her this time. I'll call her tomorrow. Maybe meet this manger who doesn't want her to have a bed. Buy her a mattress at least.

I stopped for a minute to look at him. A man like him could never date a woman like me. I ran home with tears in my eyes.

I sighed and walked to my hotel which was five blocks away. I laid in the bed and sighed loudly. I'll call her first thing in the morning.

When I got to my apartment I didnt even make it to my couch before I passed out for the night.

When I woke up it was 6:30AM. I groaned. I quickly got changed into my bookstore uniform and hurried to work without drinking or eating anything.

I got up a little after 7 and got out my phone. The numbers on my palm were smeared slightly but I could still read it. I called the number.

I was in the back sorting books when my phone when vibrated in my pocket. I took it out and answered without looking at the number. "Lizbet."

"Hey it's me," I said. "From last night?"
