The Summer That Changed Us

"I can start." I said I looked around for a second then dramatically fell to the floor.


I went to the pool to see if I could find Amber again. I didn't see her so I assumed she left but I stayed watching others swim.

"Amelia!" I cried out and dropped to the floor beside her, having no idea of what I was doing. "Wake up! Please, wake up!"

You shouled really swim up now Amber I thought to myself but stayed where I was.

I stood back watching


I nodded, "Ok"

"Mmm..." I said and lifted my arm up a tiny bit before letting it fall back to the floor.

I sat down by the pool and saw something under the water. I thought about it for a second and realized it could be a person, a drowning person at that. I jumped into the pool without thinking.

I followed her out,


I watched them

"Please wake up" I begged and took her hand.

I opened my eyes and suddenly Brandon was there.I opened my eyes to say something when I remembered I was still under water.

I smiled watching them


I walked with her

I glanced up at Amanda. Am I doing this right? I mouthed to her.

I got water into my lunds and started coughing.

I grabbed her and pulled her up to the surface. After gasping for breath a couple of times I said, "Are you stupid? Or crazy? Or do you have a death wish?"

I fluttered my eyelids and then opened them. I blink a few times and looked at Nick sideways. "Who are you?" I asked him.

"How can you not remember me? I'm Kyle! You've known me your whole life!"

I coughed and gasped for breath. "No, not really" I said.

"Well then why were you trying to drown yourself?" I asked.

"No... because I would remember someone I've known my whole life." I said. "And you sir I do not remember." I pushed myself up into a sitting position and realized he was holding my hand. I starred at it.

"I wasn't trying to drown myself" I said and coughed again.

I stared at her. "Yes...I'm Kyle...you do know me" I said quietly.

"Then what were you trying to do become one with your inner mermaid?" I asked.

"No, you are Kyle and I don't know you." I said shaking his hand off before standing up and walking over to the other side of the room.

I giggled. "No. I was going to swim up again" I said.

I looked at the place where she had been moments ago. Then I stood up and followed her. "Amelia" I whispered. "Look at me. Really look at me. If you do, you have to remember me."

"Sure you were." I said and then went over to the side of the pool. I lifted myself out and sat on the edge.

I put my hand on his cheek and looked into his eyes. "Kyle..." I started and then dropped my voice to a stage whisper. "I don't know you." And then walked away.

I looked at her sadly as she walked away. "Are we done now?" I asked then.

I swum after him and sat down beside him. "I was really."

"Done?" I repeated.

"Mhmm." I said. "Well if you think you can survive without me I'm gonna go change."

"As a couple?" I asked.

"Change what?" I asked him.

"Out of wet clothing." I said.


"We were a couple?!" I shouted and began to storm over to him before faking passing out again.
